Machiavelli was totally wrong !!!

It  needs to be said that Machiavelli was dead wrong. Whe have to admit that  his style is still particularly  interesting... but that's another story.

It is not about the famous frase attributed to the florentineer , and how he certainly said or wrote, and how he wrote it and we can interpreter now ....
"e nelle azioni di tutti li uomini, e massime de´principi, ... si guarda al fine", Principe, chapt. XVIII
How could you imagine  the Italian unification of the Peninsula with the following three elemente:
1. After the start of the partition of the modern world, which began precisely with the descent of Charles VIII of France. For Machiavelli could the event has to be truly dominant, so that you can think of a single aggression, from 1492 (Charles the VIII ) to 1527 (Charles the V of Spain).
2. Without Venice it was impossibile to  make a strong Peninsula (or an italian state at all). As enemy Venice could reach every single italian state or city and Venice dominated the entire Mediterranean, or nearly so.
3. Making the son of a pope the patron of a federation of states, anticipates the ideas of Gioberti, in the Risorgimento, which weren´t usable at all . How can one reconcile cosmopolitanism (the papacy) with defense of a nation?
